Vet Visit

Last night I noticed a crustiness on Zack's right cheek. After I clipped a bit of hair away with the scissors I still couldn't make out what it was and didn't want to pick at it not knowing if it was a wound or whatever. On the weekend Zack played non-stop with our friend's schnauzer puppy and I wondered whether the puppy's baby needle teeth may have punctured Zack in play so I was concerned an abcess was brewing or something so off we went to the vet this morning to get it checked out.

After a quick buzz with the clippers it was revealed there was no puncture wounds or abcess (thank god), but Zack has a really bad "hot spot", poor boy. I felt awful I didn't see it before but under the thick fur I couldn't tell.

I was surprised he has a hot spot as I haven't seem him scratching there but now the air can get to it hopefully it will dry up and heal.

I hope it is just a one off and not the start of any allergies or something that I know alot of terriers can suffer with. I have kept Zack on Omega Pro 3 supplement for the past year to help his skin and coat, so I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Zack was sent home with antibiotics for a week and I am to use polysporin and keep the area clean.

Hopefully he won't have to wear the dreaded E-Collar, but if he starts to scratch now the hair has been clipped and it is more exposed, then we may have to resort to wearing one for his own sake until his hot spot heals. Finger crossed it won't come to that.

Luckily Zack's vet is my friend so I know he is in good hands.

My Latest Attempt

As my pet portrait business has been a little slow of late, I can't think of anything better than to paint little Zack for myself.

This is him sitting on top of the coulees overlooking the riverbottom in Lethbridge. The colours in the painting are alot richer than the photo shows.

Oh No, It's Back

On Monday and Tuesday Lethbridge was under a heavy snowfall warning, luckily it didn't amount to much after all, just a couple of inches or so thank god. I have had enough and was in the "spring fever" mode. The only godsend is the temperature has been around -4 to 0 degrees so it has not been too cold and it doesn't stop Zack from having fun.

Now the snow is wet we can make snow balls and it's Zack's most favourite thing to run after and chase them. The only thing is I can't make the snow balls, throw them and take a picture at the same time :(

The Roxter

Zack got a new toy on Friday, the Roxter, and it's the best thing ever!!! He just loves it. It's like a weeble wobble and it won't fall down it just rocks back and forth and you can put food in it.

Even without food in it Zack is besotted as it smells like Vanilla.

He treats it like and thinks it's a soother (dummy - if you're a Brit)

The Roxter Rules!!!

Running Room

It had been a few months since Pete, Zack and I had gone to the Running Room to meet people/friends to run/walk with. Now the weather is nicer we decided to go. Zack hadn't forgotten and was such a keener pulling to get in the store.

Once in the store he was waiting for all the people to arrive.

Everyone remembered Zack and he knew it - relishing all the attention as they came in.

Oh the bum scratches

and belly rubs

Then we were off.

It was finally perfect weather.

Zack had a blast walking somewhere different for a change, all the new smells and people. It was a good evening.

Spring Fever

We have now had a few days of above freezing temperatures and most of the snow has melted. There are still some patches here and there but finally we can see the grass again, albeit the trails for walking are very muddy and wet.

Zack is smarter than he looks and takes a detour round the mud puddle - which of course I walked through LOL

It is so great not having to bundle up for walks with boots, coats, sweaters - and that's just Zack. I love spring and now the clocks went forward last night I have spring fever. I will be counting every blade of green grass that starts to come in over the next few weeks until everything is lovely and green again.

Zack will then not blend in so much to the surroundings when on his walk as he truly does have good camoflage with his coat when the grass is brown.

Especially when he gets the zoomies!!!

Bad Mum and Treat Day

Oh no, I ran out of treats!!! The pantry was bare and Zack was not impressed I had forgotten to buy his favourite goodies.

So off we went on a little trip to town....

We stopped at the locally owned pet store where I buy all my stuff. They do not sell dogs and cats so I try and support them and Zack thinks it is great when we go in and the owners know him by name and always ask how he is doing.

Zack is in heaven in the store, checks out all the bins full of toys...

He loved the farting pig!!!!
I always feel bad I can't buy him those toys as he destroys them in seconds and swallows things so they are off limits. I guess I am not a good mum as it must be an awful tease for him, kind of like me in a cake shop!!
But as Zack was such a good boy and did not leave any peemail or nick a bone from the bin the lady at the counter gave him some goodies and some extra pats, which he thought was great. Zack's portion of our pantry at home has now been restocked :)

Oh No, They're Leaving

Some sad news, our friends Martin & Karen and Zack's best buddy Dylan are going to be moving to Vancouver Island.

Hopefully it won't be for a few months yet as they have to sell their house, but still we have become good friends and Zack has known Dylan since he was about 7 months old and they have become close - it is a sad time for all. Also, now we won't have a dog sitter to look after Zack when we go away which is really unfortunate. Karen said that she has fostered and looked after many dogs over the years, but Zack is the only one she would want to keep. He is such a little love bug.

I am sure we will keep in touch with them and we will then have an excuse to take Zack and visit them on the Island.

Mexican Vacation

We just got back from our vacation in Mexico and had a great time.

The resort was great. We swam in the caribbean sea or pool every day and got lots of sun, which was so nice as it was -30 degrees at home.

Went to a very authentic Mexican restaurant which was great.
Mexico is known for it's silver and through all the shops we visited this silver jewellry store had a large silver dog which reminded me of Zack so I just had to take a picture.

There are Iguanas everywhere in Mexico, they are very prolific. Everywhere you turn you see one or more, and man can they run - like bloody speedy gonzalas. Zack would be in heaven and have a field day with them - just like the gophers LOL!!

We had such a great time and it was a bit of a shock to come back to -30 degree weather, but I missed Zack alot while we were away and was glad to see this little face again.

Fat Cat must have missed him too as this morning she even followed Zack to the door when he went outside in the garden just to make sure he wasn't leaving again too!!!
