4 Years Old!!!

Zack has something to say....

Happy Birthday to Me
Happy Birthday to Me
Happy Birthday dear Me-eeeeeee
Happy Birthday to ME!!!!

I can't believe it has been 4 years since I was born in Helena, Montana.   I am now a dual citizen both AKC and CKC and even though I was a sickly puppy I still managed to make it through puppy school and then went on to a higher education and got a certificate for Rally Obedience.  Quite an accomplishment as my mum says I have ADHD :) - she doesn't know what she is talking about.   I choose not to listen - I am the smartest - oh yeah more like a genius I'd say cuz I have her wrapped round my little paw, yes I do.    I have dabbled in agility and other things but my favourite thing is just hanging out and going for walks.

I am a recovering poopaholic but do have occasional relapses I try to keep them to myself but I tend to puke up the evidence at my mum's feet or all over the rug BOL!!

In my first four years I have made many doggy friends and enjoy sniffing butts and playing at daycare.  My buddy Deuce arrives tonight to stay for a week again which is a great birthday present in itself.

I got a gift for my birthday this morning from my mum,  another friggin collar - and she says I have a problem -  FOR DOG'S SAKE!!!!

Happy Birthday to Me, and many more

Being a beach bum is tiring.....

At the Lake

This is quite a thing to see Zack in the water without hesitation as he is not a "water dog".

But he just went right in after his ball - which floated :)

 He was so cute

Pete just bought the chuck it wand thrower thingy as my throws are so terrible that sometimes when I throw it goes backwards over my head instead of forwards ahahahah - crikey don't ask how I do that but I do :)  so this throw wand makes all the difference and Zack knows it

 Beach Bum LOL

Wally's Beach

We live a thousand miles from the ocean but Wally's Beach at St. Mary's Reservoir is the next best thing.  We haven't been there in a couple of years but decided this weekend to take Zack somewhere different for some off leash fun.  Now camping season is over there was hardly anybody there and there was 100 feet of sandy shore (no mud!!) that went for 1 - 2 km.    I have never seen the water this low before so the beach was huge and perfect :)

Between the beach and his new chuck it ball Zack had a blast.   I  could tell he was just as excited as we were about the open beach.

He did some impressive sliding stops to get his ball.

Back and forth he went

Zack even went into the water to get his ball - we were just shocked.   He didn't swim but didn't hesitate to go in after his ball.   The water was shallow and there are no rocks just sand  - may be he could tell LOL.

It's too bad all summer there are so many campers as the beach would be full.   Now with this small window of opportunity before the snow flies we will have to make the most of this beach.   Access is not good if it snows or is muddy so every weekend I think we might make a trip out there if the weather holds.   The colder the better as there will be no one camping then!!!

There is even a small thicket of trees and bushes among the sand dunes giving Zack even more fun to sniff out critters on the way back to the car.

It makes my day seeing him have such a good time.   A little less boring than walking in the city.   I will post more pictures of Wally's Beach in the days to come.

Double Vision

I fell off my chair, passed out and fainted all at the same time and had to look twice at what I was seeing.....

yes, I wasn't seeing things it was another border terrier!!!!!  Only the second one I have seen in Lethbridge in almost 4 years - they are so rare here.    I think Zack was even confused at first at what he was seeing.......ahahahah.

He is a 6 month old pup named Cooper.  Sooooo cute.   His owner phoned his wife to come out and see Zack as they hadn't seen another border terrier either LOL.  So she came out to visit while the dogs played.    Zack and Cooper hit it off right away and of course Zack being Zack he stole Cooper's tennis ball and then the games began.  Zack is so cheeky.

Deuce couldn't believe his eyes - I am sure he was thinking oh no, not another one.....but he got in on the action and starting chasing both of them - it was so funny

Double trouble

they had so much fun

It was so cool seeing two border terriers playing - they were very similar in their demeanour and looks, Zack was a little bigger of course and his coat was darker but they did look alike.

Poor Cooper got tangled in the long grass and took a nose dive

but he was soon up and at em - chasing Zacky

Cooper's owners were really nice and I think they were just as thrilled to see another BT as I was.  It was so flukey and lucky that  I had the camera with me.    We let them play for about 1/2 an hour and then the sun was going down so it was time to start walking Deuce and Zack back to the car.

Seeing Zack having so much fun makes me think about getting a second dog.   I have hummed and harred for ages for so many reasons both pros and cons, but I am starting to think of it more and how we could fit it into our lives.  We had a foster dog a while ago that we thought about keeping but it was just not the right time.   I will never say never tho and may be one day we will get one :)

Deuce Doo and Zack

Last night we met up with Anita and Deuce for an evening walk.

Zack couldn't believe his eyes when he saw Deucy Doo

It was only a minute or so before the excitement got to him and he was off with the zoomies

round and round

at full pelt speed.   Deuce just looked at him and must have thought he was an idiot LOL.

At 10 years old he is wiser than to burn all that energy.

It was a great and OMG kinda walk last night.   I will fill you in as to why tomorrow.

Willy Woes

Zacky made a trip to the vets today to have a check up of his wotsit, winkle, willy, whatever you want to call it.    There was a bit of a discharge and after the vet looked at a smear under the microscope it turns out he has an infection - poor boy.

I think Zack was enjoying all the fuss at the clinic and like a good patient he just rolled on his back so everyone could see it ahahah.  We were sent home with antibiotics for 10 days and to keep the area clipped and clean.

Zack just needs to stop waving it about so much and keep it tucked away!!!!!  Crikey   :)

"The Girls"

Zack couldn't believe his luck this morning as "the girls" came over to visit and go for a walk.  It hasn't been a week since he left Zoey the Shih Tzu at her house after his stay there while we were on vacation but absence must make the heart grow fonder as they were so happy to be reunited.   Zoey was chasing Zacky around the garden - it was so cute to see how far she has come since Liz adopted her - she has definitely come out of her shell which is great to see.

Zack just loves her and always gives her kisses.    I think the feeling is mutual.

My friend Liz was now dogsitting another little dog, Sophie the papillon and she came along for the walk too.   She was not too sure about Zack in the beginning as he was  "in her face" at first - being the typical over exuberant Zacky that he is

but she soon realized she had nothing to worry about.    After our walk we let the dogs in the back garden again and I had to laugh the way Zack was sitting on the back steps like a little person - just plunked his bum down - hilarious.   Aren't Sophie's ears amazing?   I can see why they call them butterfly dogs

Here is a picture of Zack and "the girls".

What a great little trio.

Back from Vacation

What a great week we had in Nova Scotia in the Maritimes.   I loved the fresh sea air and just relaxing.

We had a great time visiting Pete's friends and family and doing a bit of touring in between.

I even got to do some horseback riding on my favourite breed of horse a Fjord Pony as Pete's friend had two.  Cookie and Spice.

Pete's sister had two dogs,  little Hayley here the 5 month old lab pup, she was so calm for a lab pup and came pretty much everywhere with us.   Walks along the beach at dusk was amazing.

We then went and stayed at a 120 year old farm house for a day and saw how it was to live on a farm.

It was in the beautiful countryside and had working oxen - who were really friendly.

There were lots of woods all around and Pete's sister's other little dog Dallas tagged along too.   She is so cute and Zack would have loved playing with her.

Zack did great at my friend Liz where he was staying - I guess he didn't get into too much trouble as Liz didn't want him to go home and shed a tear or two :).   It's good to be home though and get back to normal.

Good news - when we got back there was a message that Zack's best buddy is "good to go" and can play and walk with other dogs again.  Her injury is all better.   6 pm tonight Zack and Paisley the Poodle will meet again.....
