Snowy Fun

Yesterday I took the dogs to the top of the coulees for a walk in the snow and a bit of off leash time.   We are just starting to let Molly off her leash and it was a perfect morning to do so with no one or nothing in sight.   I am being very careful that's for sure.

I wasn't sure what Molly would think about the deeper snow with those stubby legs and didn't think she would leave my side or go too far but she didn't care and actually run off with Zacky to play for the first time charging through the snow....

Zack was so happy to have someone to run with for a change

and then the chase was on

Molly does look just a little bit like a white rabbit running in the snow :) and it doesn't help that she hops and bounces alot cuz of those legs

which caught Zack's eye and he got his game face on

he was so focused

on this little nipper

run Molly run!!!

they were so cute.

It was actually hard to get them to stop running about to have a picture taken together.

I just loves morning walks like this - it just puts a smile on my face.

Loving It Now

After the initial shock to the system of the snow and cold temps

Zack is lovin the snow after all.... he spends hours scanning the garden for critters as they stick out like sore thumb against the white background.

Once out, he patrols the perimeter to check things out leaving a little trail behind him which little Molly stubby legs uses to follow him around so she doesn't have to trudge through the deeper parts :)

Zacky found three of his balls and his ball within a ball after lots of rummaging.  He was one happy boy.

I assume from Molly's background that she never got to enjoy romping in the snow in that puppy mill so it was great to see her having fun.   Those little stubby legs don't seem to stop her (yet anyway)

She gets around like a little jumping bean.

Lack of Focus

This last few weeks I have been taking Molly to a dog class to help build her confidence and learn the basics.   She has been doing really well considering her background and seems quite happy about the whole "learning" thing.   Hot dogs help alot too!!!

Tonight in class however there was some serious lack of focus -  on my part that is :).   We had a sequence of heeling through cones which were numbered and we were to weave through them using our telephone number.   I forgot my telephone number halfway through and did some random numbers here and there, then I forgot to follow other people and how they were doing in class then I managed to call Molly, Zack on numerous occasions.   She still responded BOL!!!

Talk about my having "squirrel syndrome" tonight, normally that's Zacky's problem :).

Out Cold

Normally when Zack, Molly and Fat Cat "get close" I do not have my camera handy and the minute I move to go and get it they get up or separate.   However, when we got home after the walkathon last Sunday I happen to have left my little camera on the coffee table and caught all the sweetness going on.

I have nothing more to say but awwww.....

I think the two of them were dreaming happy dreams by looking at their faces :)

Walkies

Last weekend we participated in a 9km Walkathon for the Lethbridge Humane Society.   It was a gorgeous day and the turnout was great.   There was twice as many participants and their dogs this year.   It was Molly's first event and she was just fine, not overwhelmed at all by all the people and dogs.

The dogs got anxious with the wait tho and Zacky of course started to get fed up of hanging about and wanted to get going  - can you tell in this face :)

Everyone started to gather with their dogs ready for the off

there was lots of them - 400 I think they said this year

Then we were off too.... the dogs behaved pretty well all the way round.   Zack sniffed as much as he could without getting run over by the marathoners and Molly strutted her stuff.

We did 9km in pretty good time and afterward the dogs were ready for their reward at the end.  Some goodies were in order.

We met this little cutie.  She is actually a white miniature schnauzer with a shaved haircut

and this one

After a while it was time to go home and here we are back at the house ready for some serious napping.

Will post again soon of the after effects of the day....

Of Course It Was Going to Happen

Just as I walked in the front door after work yesterday I heard Fat Cat halfway up the stairs wretching and doing the moves ready to puke.

I ran up to grab her and whisk her down to the laminate floor for easy clean up but as soon as my hands encased her rotund frame and lifted out it shot hitting all six stairs on the way down....As soon as I placed her down on the laminate she walked away as tho nothing had happened and was wondering what all the fuss was about.   Damn hairballs, poor Fat Cat :)

Thanksgiving Day Walk

Pete and I took the dogs for a walk in the river valley today.  It was such a gorgeous thanksgiving day weather wise that we just kept going.   We started out at Hwy 3 parking lot and ended up doing the full loop from one side of the river to the other.

We went "off roading" and took the dirt trails rather than the paved trails.   Came across tree trunks and other obstacles along our way but it was just fine.

Cuz it's a nature reserve and cuz Zack doesn't know that and thinks that anything that looks remotely like a critter is his for the taking.....he was kept on his lead through the woods.   Molly led the way and Zack loves to tuck in behind Pete.

but once out in the open on the shore of the river we let him off- he got the zoomies bad

Molly had a good run but was just as happy to hang out for cookies  :)

The river valley was just gorgeous today.   The fall colours and reflections - I love this time of year.

We walked passed the bridge on this side of the river

and ended up across the pedestrian bridge to the other side and started walking back along the dirt trail. We were not sure with the flood this spring whether the trail was still there even, but it was fine

Molly liked to be out in front - the distance today didn't seem to bother her and she had lots of pep - no need to worry about short walks only for this little madam - she's a born hiker - she just doesn't look the part that's all

Over 2 hours later and almost back

Last stop before the Wilderness Centre wetland - not many birds today which was unusual.  Actually didn't see anything today - not even a deer.

Although I think Zack and Molly found some evidence of deer along the way and had a quick snack.
Hope everybody's Thanksgiving was as good as ours.
