Eureka,We've Found It
Goodbye Nylabones... Hello Antlers. We thought we would try the natural route of a deer antler for Zack to chew on and so far so good with his belly.... no problems at all. Yay. Zack was all too keen to get stuck in
albeit confused at first cuz there was no plastic LOL
but it didn't take long for him to catch on and develop a giant elephant tusk!!!!!
I don't know whether it was the smell or what but Fat Cat wanted in on the action
trying to worm her way in for a bit of antler
but I think she realized it was a no go
cuz she doesn't have any toofems left!!!!

Zoey is Here
I picked Zoey up yesterday to stay at my house for her first visit away from home since she was taken in by my friend Liz. She has overcome alot in her short life and is still unsure about certain things but she has been doing really well. At first I am sure she was wondering what was going on and was pacing and panting a little but I think having Zack around helped take her mind off things and within no times she seemed to settle down. She even ate her food which was great!!!
Today it is like she is alot more comfortable and she has been having a blast with Zack in the garden and chasing him around. We have been for a 5km walk too and she still has enough energy to play with him - she is so darn cute.
The funniest thing is Fat Cat can't make it out. When Zoey walks past Fat Cat she does her usual spit and hiss but Zoey is totally oblivious that she is even there. Fat Cat can't figure out why she doesn't flinch or acknowledge her presence when she spits. Zoey just completely ignores her, but Fat Cat likes to keep an eye on what she is up to. Today she even was going to follow her outside but I had to put a stop to that and she just poked out the only thing that would fit - being her miniscule head. Zoey still didn't know she was there LOL
This afternoon the dogs got comfortable on the couch
not quite snuggling yet but I don't think it would be too long before they do :)

Sunday Stroll
After a few days of no exercise Zack was sooooo happy to get out and go for a short walk on Sunday in the park even if it was -11 degrees with a cold windchill on top of that
but he got to meet up with his friend Zoey
and they were so cute together trotting along the path
there was a bit of frolicking along the way
Zoey comes to stay for a first visit on Friday night and Saturday while her family is away - looking forward to having her :)

Relief and Snow
I think we have dodged another bullet with Zack as he seems to have come through eating the plastic ok after a couple of worrying days there when he was very sick. It took a while but you have no idea how happy I was to see a dog poop LOL!!! No blockage. Yay. No surgery or anything so as you can imagine we are very relieved. He is still on restricted exercise for a couple more days just to be on the safe side but it doesn't mean he can't have fun in the back garden.
We had a big winter snowstorm this week with lots of snow and it was - 16 this morning.
He was happy to walk round the garden for a bit of fresh air
and then wanted me to throw Mr. Weasel
The deep snow made it hard going
and Zacky iced up pretty good
but I think he enjoyed being outside for a bit. If he was out any longer I would have had to put his boots on. Next week if it doesn't warm up any we will have to pull out the boots for our walks so Zack's feet don't freeze.
Now it's time to go back inside for some well earned warmth and snooze on the couch with Fat Cat.

Very Worried
Zack had just gotten over a bout with his usual belly issues and he was back to normal and doing well. Then at 3 a.m. this morning I was woken up by his loud belly noises and him just laying there not sleeping - I thought here we go again and I went downstairs and got his meds and gave him some. He seemed to go back to sleep but by 7 a.m he was vomiting and to my horror he puked up some chewed up plastic!!!
I know Zack didn't eat anything on our walk yesterday and I asked my dad if he saw Zack get anything in the garden in the afternoon. My dad said he did see Zack round the corner at the patio furniture (my dad is 86). There it was the screw to the umbrella stand had been chewed. The little pieces in the photo are some of the bits he has thrown up (sorry).
As you can imagine I was beside myself and the vet said now to just give him some time. The problem is plastic doesn't show up very well on Xray. I have been feeding him boiled rice and his canned food a little at a time and he wants to eat - which is a good sign. Later this morning he did poop and there was some bits of plastic in that as well. I thought that's good it is moving through hopefully. Zack is definitely not himself tho and he laid around all day and I thought ok he is just sleeping it off until 1/2 hour ago when he vomited his rice up.
He has since perked up now he has been sick but I am still very worried and the next couple of days is a waiting game and I just hope and pray that he doesn't have to have surgery for a blockage or have any damage to his intestines from the plastic.
Why do dogs do this.... I wish they understood what the repercussions could be.

Winter Stay Away
This past fews days we have been making the most of the nice weather - the snow is almost all gone and other than the wind it has been great for taking Zack out across the fields. No snakes now so it is awesome.
It can be a challenge to see Zack on occasion as his coat and the fall colours blend in so well but his leaping like a kangeroo through the tall grass gives him away every time.
I can see ya Zacky
The clocks went back this past weekend so we walked last night in the dark after work, not so much fun walking round the roads. I reckon it is time to get my headlamp out and Zack's collar light on so we can see where we are walking more clearly. It's also supposed to snow again later this week and get into the minus double digits so quite cold. I dread it. It will be time for Zack's winter woolies and boots - poor boy.

We took the ball on some of his walks and laughed so hard - he is so uncoordinated at times but loves to chase it over and over.
